Dear TUPOCC,
The Legal Worker Caucus, The United People of Color Caucus (TUPOCC)
and the Anti-Sexism Committee are proud to offer our Guild community
the opportunity to travel to the border with a delegation lead by the
American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) in conjunction with their
partner group Comité Fronterizo de Obreras (Border Committee of Women
Workers). The AFSC's Austin Tan Cerca de la Frontera (Austin so Close
to the Border) program organizes reality tours to the Texas-Mexico
border to learn about corporate-led globalization through face-to-face
encounters with maquiladora workers. The delegation will take place
the weekend before the national convention in Austin, from October
13-15. The cost is $200-300 (sliding scale) and we will leave from
and return to Austin.
We are excited about the opportunity for Guild members to learn more
about the real life effects of immigration and labor policies during
such a crucial moment in U.S. history. Our hope is that the
delegation will provide a foundation that will enhance the learning
and work of the convention. Attached is their brochure that explains
more fully the work done with the Comité Fronterizo de Obreras, (CFO),
a worker controlled and woman-led border organization.
The delegation is open to all Guild members: students, legal
workers, attorneys and friends. Space is limited to 15 people, so if
you are interested, please fill out the attached border delegation
application and return it to Mel at mel@... by June I6th. We hope to
have strong TUPOCC representation at this delegation and at the Austin
convention!
In Solidarity,
TUPOCC Co-Chairs:

Breast Cancer death
Common Breast Cancer Myths
The first myth pertaining to this disease is that it only affects women.
Second myth that is associated with this disease is that if one has found a lump during an examination, it is cancer.
Third is that it is solely hereditary
The next myth associated with breast cancer is downright ridiculous. Would you believe, that in this day and age, some individuals still think that breast cancer is contagious?
Conversely, some individuals foolishly believe that breast size determines whether or not one gets cancer.
Finally, another myth that is associated with this disease is that it only affects older people. This is not so. Although the chance of getting breast cancer increases with age, women as young as 18 have been diagnosed with the disease.
