Dear Curb members,

At this week's CURB meeting, we set MONDAY AUGUST 7, the first day of the

Special Session, for the CURB PHONE - FAX BLAST TO STOP PRISON EXPANSION IN

CALIFORNIA.

We are asking all CURB members to mobilize your membership, friends, family,

co-workers, people on the street, to phone or fax a targeted list of

legislators on that date with a clear message: Californians don't want more

prisons!

Ideas for mobilizations could include:

- setting up a table in your town center with cell phones for people to use

to call Sacramento;

- Organizing a community meeting, gathering or teach-in where everyone

writes a fax or makes a call;

- Faxing petition signatures your organization has gathered;

- Opening your office for members to come in and make a call or send a fax.

Please think about how your organization might support this critical effort

to stop prison expansion in California. We can help you by supplying ideas

and materials. Please let us know how you and your organization would like

to participate.

We've stopped prison expansion before and we can do it again, but we need

your help!
