\Associate Director of the Community Legal Resource

\Associate Director of the Community Legal Resource
Network (CLRN)

The Community Legal Resource Network (CLRN) functions
as a virtual law firm with over 260 CUNY Law alumni
working in community-based solo and small firms.
Members function in "practice groups" in the areas of
Family Law, Immigration, Employment, General Practice
and around issues facing LGBT communities. The
Network, which relies heavily on technology to facilitate
communication, provides members with many of the
benefits to which they would be entitled had they chosen
to work in a large firm. The CLRN leadership team, of
which the new Associate Director will play an integral part,
helps CLRN members with basic business issues including
billing, recordkeeping, technology, bookkeeping and
taxes. The Network's aim, accomplished through a wide
variety of member services including providing continuing
legal education tailored to members' needs and a peer
mentoring program, is to make its members financially,
professionally, and personally successful, and help them
achieve their individual justice missions through the
development of economically viable solo and small firm
practices. In addition, we identify larger justice initiatives
that members can participate in that are beyond the reach
of an individual small firm practitioner.
Associate Director's Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Director of CLRN, the Associate Director
will supervise and manage several initiatives. The
Associate Director will:

*     Develop new programs designed to increase access
to justice by partnering with community-based
organizations and other CUNY units;
*       Oversee the marketing of CLRN and the work of its
members;
*      Coordinate the training of Network members in the
area of Surrogate Court Practice and/ or Immigration
Practice;
* Work daily with the Network's membership to
understand and support members' current and emerging
needs;
*  Identify and develop continuing legal education
programs; and
*   Assist the Director where and when appropriate in
helping to write grant proposals and other written
materials marketing CLRN and its services.

Additional Qualifications:

        Qualifications:

serve CLRN members and to advance the cause of access
to justice. S/he will possess excellent writing skills, strong
organizational skills, a capacity to facilitate the work of
others, and have a demonstrated ability to work with
diverse communities and constituencies. The candidate
must be able to handle multiple tasks and have some
familiarity with desktop publishing and database
management. A candidate will have at least three to five
years of law practice experience in small or solo practices
or other positions involving access to justice, and be
admitted to practice law in the State of New York. CUNY is
an equal opportunity employer. We affirmatively seek
diversity in our staff with regard to gender, race, national
origin, sexual orientation, physical abilities and people
who are bicultural and bilingual.

How to Apply:
Salary is commensurate with experience and is scaled between $50-60,000. Appointment is for one year with the possibility of renewal. Exact start date is reasonably flexible. The search will remain open until a suitable candidate is found. We encourage applicants to send materials no later that October 1, 2006.
