Guild Member wins Congressional Primary

Guild member Keith Ellison won the Democratic primary yesterday for the 5th
Congressional District in Minnesota. With only token opposition in a safe
Democratic seat, Ellison should become the first African-American member of
Congress from Minnesota and the first Muslim member of Congress in the
United States. Keith won 41% of the vote in a 7 person primary, overcoming
personal and political attacks led by rightwing bloggers. He ran a campaign
based on immediate withdrawal from Iraq, single payer healthcare,
environmental justice and labor rights. Congratulations to Keith Ellison.
