Come to the NLG Immigration Committee's Student Immigration Court Observation Project Training and learn about the Immigration judicial process for detained immigrants. Participate in a project that will document the measure of justice in immigration courts. Students will go to Master Calendar proceedings in immigration court about once a month and fill out NLG-prepared forms on documenting the immigration court process. Other NLG committees in other parts of the country have done similar projects to document the extent of constitutional due process in immigration courts. The NLG Immigration Committee works in the courts and in the streets to defend basic due process rights of people caught in the immigration court system. Last week, Immigration and Customs Enforcement did a series of raids in the Watsonville area, detaining 107 people, 44 of whom have already been deported. The NLG Immigration Committee has also been monitoring ICE and other federal agencies within the Department of Homeland Security who have recently shown a pattern of in-flight visa revocations for people of Middle-Eastern and South Asian backgrounds, especially those who have advocated in support of Palestinians.
