Subject: {Disarmed} [tupocc] Fighting Columbus Day
This is a day late, but better late than never.

Here are a few links that discuss the holiday that celebrates the
slave trader who supposedly "discovered" America, and who later as a
Spanish colonial governor oversaw the extermination of entire nations
of people in the Caribbean and who set the stage for the next 500
years of oppression against American Indian peoples.

This website gives information on how the Denver activist community is
responding with ideas on how the holiday of cultural oppression can be
transformed and subverted: http://www.transformcolumbusday.org/

The next two articles discuss what Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez
has said about the holiday (in which he accurately described Columbus
as worse than Hitler... at least if you compare the numbers of those
killed), and what he thinks the day should be known as --- "The day of
Indian resistance"
