The historic Immigrants Rights protests earlier this year were the largest protests on any issue in the history of the U.S.  Today immigrant sweeps and deportations are continuing while anti-immigrant legislation continues to move through congress.  How is race coloring the national debate on immigration?  How can we build stronger cross-racial and cross-class alliances among communities of color?  In this election year, how can we not be pit against each other, but see our common ground?  How and why especially should faith communities be involved in this struggle for full human rights, citizenship, dignity and participation?

Bill Ong Hing is professor of law and Asian American studies at the University of California at Davis and the author of Defining America through Immigration Policy.  For 3 decades he has worked extensively in the field including founding and directing the Immigrant Legal Resource Center, as well as working with Congress & the U.S. Department of Justice.  Defining America through Immigration Policy will be available for signing and sale after the lecture.
