New York Lawyers for the Public Interest, Inc



           New York Lawyers for the Public Interest (NYLPI) is seeking applications for the position of Staff Attorney to work on issues of disability rights.   
 
NYLPI is a not-for-profit civil rights law firm.  NYLPI's staff attorneys, community organizers, and advocates engage in advocacy and impact litigation in the areas of disability rights, environmental justice and community development, and access to health care.  In addition, NYLPI harnesses the resources of more than 80 of New York's most prestigious law firms and corporate legal departments to provide free legal assistance to community organizations and not-for-profits.


The Staff Attorney will work closely with the disability rights team, as well as members of the private bar, to provide high quality legal representation on a range of issues, including addressing barriers to the physical accessibility of public accommodations and public services, and the treatment of people with disabilities in foster care, among others.  This position includes responsibility for case development, as well as recruiting and mentoring members of the private bar to work on disability rights issues.  



Criteria: Applications are encouraged from attorneys with four to seven years of relevant litigation experience.  Applicants must have top litigation skills, and sensitivity to issues of discrimination, as well as comfort and familiarity with private law firm practice.  Case development experience, mentoring capability, and high level of organizational skills all required.  Experience with disability rights or public interest work a plus.  Excellent writing, analytic and public speaking skills are essential, as is the ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.  Second language is also a strong plus.  
 
NYLPI offers salary commensurate with experience plus excellent benefits.
