Fellowship Opportunities
The American Civil Liberties Union of Texas seeks third year law students and recent law graduates to sponsor for the Skadden, Equal Justice Works, and other public interest fellowships which begin Fall 2007.
The ACLU of is one of the nation's foremost defenders of civil liberties and civil rights. We are a nonpartisan organization dedicated to defending the Bill of Rights through litigation, legislation, and public education. The Texas affiliate of the ACLU was founded in 1938 and is headquartered in Austin, with a regional office in Houston, and ten chapters with over 19,000 members statewide.
The ACLU of Texas welcomes ideas for potential projects that are consistent with our work and overall mission to defend and promote the fundamental principles and values embodied in the Texas and US Constitutions. The Texas affiliate has a particular focus on criminal justice, racial justice, and border justice issues.
Applicants for sponsorship must be entering their final year of law school or must be a recent law graduate currently clerking or beginning a clerkship in the fall. Applicants must possess excellent writing, communication, and legal research skills, be self-motivated, able to manage a variety of tasks, and have a passion for civil liberties.
Individuals interested in receiving ACLU of Texas sponsorship should submit their resume and a letter of interest with a brief description of their proposed project. All documents should be submitted in PDF format and submitted by email to Kim Skotak at kskotak@aclutx.org. All applications must be submitted by September 1, 2006.
