Report back from NYC solidarity rally

Yesterday at Union Square in New York, people rallied in solidarity with the demonstrators in Iran. Here's a report back by TUPOCC member Adrienne Wheeler:

There were a couple hundred people and a sea of green in Union Square. The general tenor was a call to stop the killing (in Farsi and in English). There was also a common childhood song from Iran about kids sticking together when the teacher is beating one with the alphabet stick. (My friend translated; I dont speak Farsi.)

Some signs were about the elections. Many held signs that read "I am Neda" or some variation. Neda also means voice in Farsi.

For a new year of standing in solidarity

I watched this for the first time yesterday, and it just struck me as a much more meaningful expression of values and goals for "the holiday season" than any card or prayer.

Playing For Change: "Stand By Me"

From the award-winning documentary, "Playing For Change: Peace Through Music", comes the first of many "songs around the world" being released independently. Featured is a cover of the Ben E. King classic by musicians around the world adding their part to the song as it travelled the globe. This and other songs such as "One Love" will be released as digital downloads soon; followed by the film soundtrack and DVD early next year.
