NCA Demands the Immediate Release of Sameeh HammoudehMay 12, 2006
The National Council of Arab Americans (NCA) demands the immediate and unconditional release of Sameeh Hammoudeh, a stateless Palestinian who has been wrongfully imprisoned by the US authorities for three years.
Currently, Mr. Hammoudeh remains unjustly imprisoned under harsh and humiliating conditions, despite being acquitted and declared innocent, by twelve jurors, of all terrorism-related charges over four months ago. As a result, for the past three years, Mr. Hammoudeh's wife and six children have been devastated while being forced to endure the severe emotional trauma of witnessing a loving father and a devoted husband suffer wrongfully imprisoned.
Unfortunately, the repression against Mr. Hammoudeh using "secret evidence" is not unique but instead has become a standard tactic to intimidate and repress the voices of the Arab community in the US. Indeed, the racist repression of Arabs and Muslims in the US can be seen in the case of the Los Angeles 8, Mazin Al-Najjar, Sami Al-Arian, and countless others. Like those before him, Mr. Hammoudeh has been targeted solely because he is an Arab Palestinian who dared to speak out against the crimes of Zionist colonization, apartheid, and genocide being inflicted on the Arab Palestinian people.
The jury verdict declaring Mr. Hammoudeh innocent is a reflection of what Mr. Hammoudeh himself stated:
Everything was fabrication. Everything was a mere lie, sad lies. This is what they did, and this is what they are insisting on doing to me and to continue my ordeal, only because I am a stateless Palestinian, that nobody is going to care about me, nobody is going to talk about my case. I am not a Christian. I am not a Jew. I am not a citizen of a powerful country that can ask about my destiny, about why the American government is abusing my rights.
Standing in firm solidarity with Mr. Hammoudeh and his family, the NCA demands the US authorities respect the jury verdict and immediately release Mr. Hammoudeh.
The NCA also calls for an immediate end to the campaign of repression and intimidation waged against the Arab and Muslim community in the US.
The NCA also calls on all individuals, human rights organizations, and people of conscience in the US to join in the demand for Mr. Hammoudeh's immediate release and uncondtional release by e- mailing/phoning/faxing:
