AFSC - Immigrants' Rights

Dear AFSC Friend,

Thank you for being part of the clarion call for fair and humane immigration reform. Because of your action, more than 3,000 emails have been sent and hundreds of phone calls to senators from every state. It’s heartening to know that so many voices are speaking up and taking a stand for justice.

It’s easy to be discouraged when you pay attention to the day’s news. The Senate is debating some harsh measures in the immigration bill. Presidential candidates are trying to "look tough" by scapegoating immigrants for our nation’s problems. Media personalities are ramping up anti-immigrant rhetoric, trying to improve their television ratings by sowing fear of those living on the margins of mainstream society.

We must ensure that the voices for compassion and fairness are not drowned out by the voices preaching fear and defensiveness. If you haven’t already, please use our sample letter and web site to email your senators today >

Also, please invite your friends to join you in our call. Please forward this email, or send one in your own words, to five friends. We’d love to see the numbers of emails continue to climb this week while the Senate continues its debate. Senators are paying close attention to the telephone calls and emails they are receiving.

To keep up to date with the debate in Congress, we have posted key action alerts and summaries on our web site. Visit http://www.afsc.org/immigrants-rights/current-news/ for regular updates from my wonderful colleague in Washington, D.C., Sara Ibrahim.

Again, thank you for being a part of the American Friends Service Committee’s advocacy for the rights and dignity of all people. Your standing with us truly means a lot to me and the AFSC immigration staff working throughout the nation.

¡Pa’lante! Onward!
